1. “Who comes to this service?”
Folks of every age and background frequent this service – and everyone is welcome! Primarily, the community is composed graduate students, young professionals, and growing families. Many in the community are graduate students at nearby Emory University, and most people live and work around the Decatur area.
2. “What’s a typical service like?”
We like to mix the service up with some frequency, and we enjoy including lots of different people up front during worship, which means ‘typical’ is a moving target. However, you can be sure that in every service the band will lead us in the singing of songs, a message will be preached, we’ll have a time of prayer, and we will end our gathering with the sharing of communion.
3. “What do people usually wear?”
We’re casual. Jeans, shorts, t-shirts, and the like are all common choices.
4. “I haven’t been to church in a while… will I know what to do?”
Coming back to church can be daunting as every one around you seems to know about an unspoken routine. You will find it comforting to know that a whole lot of folks each week at Last Call are first or second time visitors themselves. They’re figuring it out too! Also, we have printed booklets in our pews that explain the order of the worship service and why we do what we do. On the whole, while some parts of the service may be new or confusing, the atmosphere is relaxed and the community is extremely friendly.
5. “I’m not sure about the Christian faith… what will the experience be like for me?”
Folks continue to comment that the atmosphere at Last Call is both welcoming and hospitable in nature. We want to encourage and challenge long-time followers of Jesus to grow in their faith, but we always ensure that folks of every faith background are not only welcome, but valued and heard. In fact, you’ll notice in our sermons that we purposely look to engage some of the more challenging questions that are raised by those skeptical of the church. We want to wrestle honestly with the questions you – and all of us – have.
6. “Can I take communion?”
Communion is a sacrament shared by those who have been baptized and profess a faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Children who’ve been baptized and have a basic understanding of the Christian faith may also share in communion. If you’d like to know more about this or would like to be baptized, talk to Bobby (bobby@clairmontpres.org).
7. “Is there childcare?”
Yes! We have a number of young families who’ve benefited from having childcarefor children under the age of 3. Those 3 and older can join their parents in worship. And parents, know that your children are always welcome in worship!
